About Our Show

California Connected is an award-winning, news magazine produced through a unique collaboration of four PBS stations: KCET-Los Angeles, KPBS-San Diego, KQED-San Francisco and KVIE-Sacramento.

Since 2002, California Connected has been providing coverage of the people and ideas that drive California. We are on the road year-round, bringing you directly to the state's communities and newsmakers. Our mission is to increase people's participation in their own governance and to encourage people in this diverse state to think of themselves as members of the same community.

Broadcast journalist Lisa McRee is host and correspondent for California Connected. She is the former host of "Good Morning America" and longtime news anchor at KABC in Los Angeles.

Our production team is headed by Executive Producer Bret Marcus, formerly of NBC News, and includes Senior Producer Justine Schmidt, Line Producer Ellen Raphael, Show Producer Carlos Aragon, Road Trip Producer Autumn Doerr and Director José Colomer. This website is produced by Marc Phu with Christine da Fonte, and Thomas Kelley.

In addition to the primetime television program, California Connected regularly contributes to KQED's statewide radio program, The California Report. We have also contributed pieces to American Public Media's national radio program, Marketplace.

We have won numerous awards, including an Edward R. Murrow Award, three Northern California Emmy Awards, four Los Angeles Press Club Awards, five Gracie Allen Awards, three National Headliner Awards, and a National Journalism Award.

The series is funded by The James Irvine Foundation, The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, The California Endowment and The Annenberg Foundation.

California Connected airs throughout California on 12 Public Television stations.

The California Connected web site is powered by WordPress, an open source, non-commercial publishing tool.
